‘My work draws inspiration from early memory. Growing up, my mother and father cultivated plants and animals, their brilliant colours and forms left an unforgettable impression. Over the years I have collected many books and images on plants and animals. I study them in detail and relate to the qualities common to them.

For me a painting begins with uncertainty, tolerance for this uncertainty is both the beauty and difficulty in painting. Ideas become fixed when a painting dries but in time uncertainty returns and the path continues. While my iconography is personal I aim to seduce the viewer with enigmatic forms and colours the same way an animal attracts a mate.

As psychological portraits my paintings do more than represent progress. I employ recurring symbolic motifs in endless permutations, to actively process and transcend it.’
